Linao Evangelical Church is a daughter church of BUCCI, located at Antipolo, Linao, Talisay City, Cebu. The church was established in 2003. At present it has fourteen outreaches within a five-kilometer radius of the main church and two pioneering mission fields in the town of Argao that started in May, 2013. The church focuses on the children’s ministry.

Her Beginnings

In 2003, then Elder Jimmy C. Salar organized a Bible study group together with his family in their house every Friday. While they held their Bible studies, children from their neighborhood were playing nearby. After their Bible study, Elder Jimmy gathered the children for a dance and singing competition. The number of children increased as they wanted to join in the competition. Two months later, he realized that this was an opportunity to lead these children to the Lord. He shifted from the dancing competition “Otso-Otso” and secular videoke to Christian music and memorizing Bible verses. The Gospel was introduced to the children through the DVBS program led by the BUCCI youth volunteers during summer. These regular activities inspired the children to attend every Friday until it became a regular Bible study in all levels. As a result, the Linao Christian Fellowship was formally established on August 23, 2003.

Linao Christian Fellowship (LCF) – as a Home Church

Three years later, the pioneers of the Bible study group decided to hold worship services in Linao to make it accessible to its growing congregation. Thus, the Linao Christian Fellowship was born – a home church. The fellowship grew in number with an initial attendance of 40 composed of children, youth, and some adults. Worship service was held every Sunday pastored by Elder Jimmy. BUCCI pastors visited the church every first Sunday to celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Due to the increasing number of worshipers and in cooperation with BUCCI, a church edifice was built in a leased parcel of land. Intern Pastor Cleo James Millamena was assigned as pastor of LCF. As a response to the great challenge, the founder/leader Elder Jimmy left his corporate job and decided to enroll at El Theological Seminary. The fellowship was elevated to church status from Linao Christian Fellowship to Linao Evangelical Church (LEC) duly recognized by the mother church.

Church Growth and Ministry

The vision of LEC is to reach out to more children in the community. In obedience to the great commission, the establishment of outreaches was pursued, the goal being one outreach per year. Tinterests who live in the same locality. Cell meetings are usually in one of the members’ homes, generally consisting of a fellowship meal, prayer, worship, sharing or bible study and discussion. In a cell group, people are led to Christ with a covenant to do the work of the kingdom. Cell members join with one another to accomplish four specific tasks, which are edification, equipping, evangelism and leadership expansion. LEC and her outreaches identify and appoint potential cell leaders. Every member of the church and it’s outreaches is encouraged to have his/her own cell group with the exception of children ages five years old and below. The cell group instills into their minds the principle that “every member is a minister”. Such principle transforms the leaders to become disciple makers and multipliers. Todate, LEC has organized a cell network composed of 50 small groups broken down as follows: one 6 member core group;27 first generation and 22 second generation cell groups. LEC’s Vision for the “Beyond” As we commemorate BUCCI’s centennial,we look forward to attaining the LEC vision which is to plant evangelical churches in every town or city in the southeastern part of Cebu. This could only be done through intense prayer and commitment to obey Christ’s Great Commission, “to make disciples who make disciples.”

By God’s amazing grace, 15 outreaches were established in just 10 years. These are: Talisay City (Maghaway 1 and 2, San Miguel, Lipata, Didos, Upper Linao, Pajo, Molila); Minglanilla (Tubod, Poblacion, Tunghaan, Baccay riles); Naga City (Inayagan); and in Argao (Mandilikit and Sitio Magkabayo, Capioan). A pool of trained teachers is assigned to conduct regular Bible studies as a follow up of the DVBS. Junior worship service is held in every area once a month. Two major annual events bring all the outreaches together in fellowship – its Anniversary in August and Christmas Day.

LEC – as Cell Church in 2013

In response to the BUCCI 2020 vision, LEC has adopted the strategy of church planting through cell groups. Such strategy transforms the leaders to become disciple makers and multipliers. It instills in their minds the principle that “every member is a minister.” To date, LEC has organized a cell network composed of 50 small groups broken down as follows: one 6-member core group; 27 first generation and 22 second generation cell groups.

LEC’s Vision for the “Beyond”

As we commemorate BUCCI’s centennial, we look forward to attaining the LEC vision, which is to plant evangelical churches in every town or city in the southeastern part of Cebu. This could only be done by God’s grace as we pray intensely and commit ourselves to obey Christ’s Great Commission, “to make disciples who make disciples.”
