who-we-are

We are Independent, Protestant, Presbyterian, Reformed, and Evangelical

We are a Christian church rooted and grounded in the teachings of the Bible. We are Presbyterian in culture, Reformed in nurture and Evangelical in nature.

  • We are Independent. By this we mean that we are not under or connected to any denomination locally or internationally.
  • We are Protestant. By this we mean that we grew out from the beliefs and practices that originated in the 16th century Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli and other Reformers. As a Protestant church, we hold on to the Five Solas of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone), Solus Christus (Christ alone), Sola Fide (Faith alone), Sola Gratia (Grace alone), Soli Deo Gloria (God’s glory alone).
  • We are Presbyterian. By this we mean that our traditions, practices and church government grew out from the mainstream Protestant Presbyterian tradition which is governed according to the pattern of elders (Greek Presbyters) seen in the Old and New Testaments. Biblically qualified elders are chosen through congregational election and, along with ministers and deacons, rule the church corporately.
  • We are Reformed. By this we mean, theologically, the system of biblical beliefs that grew out from the Reformation, particularly that of John Calvin, which primarily emphasizes the absolute sovereignty of God and that the highest end of all things is the glory of God. This theological heritage is often referred to as “Reformed Theology” as expressed and summarized in the acronym “TULIP” – Total depravity of man, Unconditional election, Limited atonement, Irresistible grace, and Perseverance of the saints.
  • We are Evangelical. By this we mean it in two major distinctive ways: First, we believe in the importance and need for the personal conversion of every person to be saved by sharing the gospel (Good News) of salvation. Secondly, by Evangelical we mean that we are committed to three essential doctrines:
    • That salvation is by God’s grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
    • That the Holy Scripture is God’s revealed Word, the Church’s only infallible and inerrant rule and authority for faith and conduct.
    • That God’s people are called to holiness in all aspects of life. The system of morality and ethics that should mark the life of every Christian is based on God’s Word, the Bible.

OUR MINISTRY STRATEGY

Bring, Belong, Build, Bless

All of our ministries at BUCCI have been arranged around this four-step strategy. We believe that this process reflects God’s redemptive plan of bringing people to Him, that they may belong to His church, building them up in Christlikeness so that they become a blessing to others.

Our strategy for ministry is to build up New Testament believers who:

BRING

“I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 13:47 NIV)

Bringing people to Jesus christ is the first step of the work of the priesthood of believers. We believe Christ deserves worship from everyone on earth, and as long as there are people not yet worshipping Him, we still have much work to do.

The mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ is to preach the gospel to everyone and to all nations. We are all called to bring people to Jesus Christ, that they may become his disciples and worship the Father in heaven.

BELONG

“…so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.” (Romans 12:5 NLT)

Living in community is the biblical model we see throughout Scripture, in God’s chosen people, Israel of the Old Testament and then in the Church of the New Testament. Belong to one another in a community is one of our best witnesses for Jesus to the unbelieving world outside.

God created us to live in community, and we most effectively live out our mission as the family of God, together and for each other.

BUILD UP

“…to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13 NIV).

We believe that every believer is called to be a disciple-maker and so every member of the church must pursue training and discipline to be an effective disciple0maker. It is the call of every believer to participate in God’s work through the church.

We value getting equipped and trained for ministry so that we can put what we know about Him into practice for the building up of the Church and for the glory of God.

BLESS

“I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing to others” (Genesis 12:2 NLT).

We are “blessed” to be a blessing.  We are the hands and feet of Christ. We must live on our mission personally, locally and globally, to make much of Christ and bring Him glory.
